Choosing a career is a very important step in professional training, as the reasons behind the decision affect personal investments in learning and the commitment to its realization. This work aimed to investigate the motivations of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education for their choice on this course from a qualitative approach. For the production of the data, we carried out semi-structured interviews with the voluntary participation of six students from the first semester of a public university in Bahia, who were assigned fictitious names in order to have their true identities preserved. The responses of the participants were transcribed and analyzed through approximations using the content analysis technique. The results confirm the findings of other studies, demonstrating the importance of altruistic and intrinsic motives for the choice of teaching. However, extrinsic motives seem to not have affected the decisions of the students.
