ARCHITECTURE AND LIGHT ON CONTEMPORANY COMPLEXITY: RECENT DESIGNS BASED ON THE THEORY OF ROBERT VENTURI

The article proposes a reading of contemporary architecture from the postmodernist view of Robert Venturi and his defense of the symbolic and communicative space, in the works “Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture” and “Learning from Las Vegas”. To this end, a parallel was established which, in addition to architecture itself, involves lighting as an outstanding element of the recent projects, linking Venturi’s theory to contemporary seeking
of ephemerality, communication and interactivity. It was concluded that although associated with problems of social manipulation, this type of symbolic and communicative design and its complexity, are essential for urban vitality.
