This article is part of a case study within a broader analysis of Oscar Niemeyer’s museum designs, with the aim of investigating the relationship between architectonic design and program during the design procedures. Rather than discussing formal or constructive solutions, the text focuses on the program versus formal/structural decisions perspective. The
article reviews program alterations involved only in the Museum of Contemporary Art of
Niterói project. Original plans, published sketches and texts were examined. The documentation was inspected parallel to witness accounts of formal, structural and programmatic alterations to the definitive design, and verifications of the construction itself.
