A baixa estatura constitui uma queixa comum no consultório pediátrico e endocrinológico devido à ansiedade dos pais em relação ao sucesso social e econômico de seus filhos. O diagnóstico e o manejo das desordens do crescimento em crianças responsivas à terapia com Hormônio do Crescimento foram ampliados, mas algumas indicações permanecem controversas, principalmente no tocante à análise custo/benefício. O uso do Hormônio do Crescimento para crianças com deficiência clara é bem aceito. Entretanto, discute-se na atualidade a sua utilização em crianças que não possuem esta disfunção laboratorialmente comprovada. Esta revisão enfatiza a conduta em relação às crianças com baixa estatura por distúrbios endocrinológicos, desde o primeiro atendimento, bem como os métodos diagnósticos, os diagnósticos diferenciais, a avaliação e o tratamento, incluindo as indicações da terapêutica hormonal com Hormônio do Crescimento recombinante.
