Hiperuricemia como fator de risco cardiovascular

Resumo

Muitos estudos epidemiológicos têm sugerido uma relação entre níveis séricos elevados de ácido úrico e risco de doença cardiovascular. A hiperuricemia frequentemente guarda relação com obesidade, dislipidemia e hipertensão arterial, todos estes conhecidos fatores de risco cardiovascular. No entanto, permanecem dúvidas quanto ao papel isolado do ácido úrico como fator de risco independente. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar revisão bibliográfica crítica dos principais estudos epidemiológicos que procuraram verificar a associação entre hiperuricemia e doença cardiovascular, bem como buscaram identificar possíveis mecanismos fisiopatológicos envolvidos.
