HYPERURICEMIA AS A CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTOR
Keywords:
uric acid, cardiovascular riskAbstract
Many epiden1iological studies have suggested a relationship between increased serum levels of uric acid and the risk (f cardiovascular disease. The hyperuricemia is often related to obesity, deslipidemia and arterial hypertension, all these known cardiovascular risk factors. However, some doubts remain about the single role of uric acid as an independent risk factor. The aim of this article is to present bibliographic critical review about the main epidemiological studies that tried to verify the association between the hyperuricania and cardiovascular disease and also tried to identify possible physiopathological mechanisms involved.
