RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ATTENTION DEFICIT 0/SOROER HYPERACTIVITY, THE FAMILY DYNAMICS, DYSPHONIA ANO VOCAL NODULE IN CHILDREN
Keywords:
child, voice disorders, attention deficit disorder with hyperactivityAbstract
Objective
To investigate the relationship between the attention deficit disorder- hyperactivity and family dynamics in children who present dysphonia and vocal nodules.
Methods
An experimental group of 7 O children presenting organic-functional dysphonia and vocal nodules, and a contrai group of 7 O children, without /aringeal and vocal a/teration. The vocal evaluation was obtained through application of the GRBAS scale; the family dynamics was evaluated through the data obtained from a questionnaire; the interview to access the Attention Deficit Disorder - Hyperactivity, was based on the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders IV The socioeconomic data for analysis was obtained through the app/ication of the Socioeconomic Evaluation Questionnaire produced by the Social Service Dept. of the University of São Paulo.
Results
The analysis of the family dynamics did not find significant differences between the two groups. The analysis of the Attention Deficit- Hyperactivity Disorder, demonstrated that there is a re!ationship among the Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity, dysphonia, and vocal nodules (p= O, 00 7).
Conclusíon
After evaluating two groups of children, one with dysphonia and vocal nodules, and the other with normal voice, both groups belonging to low socioeconomic leveis, we concluded that children with voice disorder, usually present also the Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder. Therefore, we are suggesting that this psychopathology be eva!uated in children under treatment for the infantile dysphonia, a procedure which might, consequently, improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
