Treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis

Ankylosis may be defined as the fusion of the articular surfaces with bony or fibrous tissue, which can interfere in the normal function of the mandible. The treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis poses a significant challenge because of technical difficulties and a high incidence of recurrence. ln addition, there is no consensus in relation to the best treatment for this pathology. Therefore, the aim of this study was to review the literature searching for the main treatments and results.
