from the conceptual bases to the epistemological behavior in Information Science

Abstract

The conceptual structure of information, knowledge, and organizational intelligence within the scope of
Information Science is analyzed, from the research field of knowledge management. Knowledge management
as a starting and meeting point for reflection about the epistemological references of information, knowledge,
and organizational intelligence, to elucidate conceptual differences and similarities. Organizational intelligence
can be interchangeable with the notion of knowledge management, since both use the same raw material: data, information, and knowledge. From the methodological point of view, the paper resorted to a literature review, mostly using articles from the Information Science field that address the concepts of information, knowledge, and organizational intelligence, including theoretical references from the knowledge management field of study and in the disciplines that use knowledge management to build disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge. The
construction of organizational knowledge has been based on data, information, knowledge, and intelligence collectively generated in organizational contexts. The clarification of interchangeable and diffuse concepts, such as: information, knowledge, organizational intelligence, and related concepts seem to gain clarity in the interdisciplinary context arising from the research field of knowledge management, as well as knowledge organization, which also exchange perspectives and theoretical references interdisciplinary. The epistemological reality of the proponents of the research field of knowledge management, as well as knowledge organization, seek to demarcate the field with eastern epistemological contributions, without diverging from western approaches to the construction of organizational knowledge, with empirical examples of eastern organizational and intellectual reality and western.
