Abstract

The audiovisual is more than a pedagogical tool in the classroom. It is a space for students’ leadership. In this context, this article aims to analyze and characterize the educational and social contributions through the audiovisual production of students in the final years of Elementary School at a private school in Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the remote class mode implemented in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The descriptive analysis of 10 videos made by students is performed from the perspective of Media Education as an instrument for the comprehensive formation of children and adolescents and as a right of these citizens to exercise a transformative communication that favors youth leadership, also considering the cyberculture as a sociocultural context. This qualitative research study is characterized as a case study. It proposed to analyze the productions under three aspects: (1) according to the themes addressed by the students; (2) according to the expressive resources adopted with the audiovisual as a language; (3) the educommunicative experiences achieved in the productions. As a result of the analysis, the study emphasizes the relevance of Media Education in the formation of students as content producers and not only a consumer, and mainly as citizens capable of making transformative reinterpretations of their realities.
