About the Journal
Brief History
Revista de Nutrição (e-ISSN 1678-9865) is a specialized journal linked to the Graduate Program in Health Sciences of the Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas). Founded in 1988, the journal adopted a continuous publication model in 2019, focusing on original or review articles that contribute to the study of Nutrition in its various subareas and interfaces.
Compliance with Open Science
Since 2019, the Revista de Nutrição has adopted a continuous publication model as a way to contribute to the acceleration of the dissemination of scientific research and access to updated information. Furthermore, it is a Gold open access journal, meaning all its content can be freely accessed at no cost.
Aiming to broaden the transparency and debate of the current scientific model, we disclose the Editor responsible for the evaluation process in the published article and encourage the submission of preprints, as well as the deposition of research data. For these purposes, we recommend SciELO Preprints and SciELO data.
The Open Science Compliance Form developed by SciELO is available for online completion and contributes to improving open science-related practices in the journal.
Publication Ethics
The Revista de Nutrição, with a focus on the application/execution of good practices in scientific publications, adopts the Guidelines on Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing recommended by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) to guide the journal's editorial activities.
For research involving human beings and animals, we adhere to Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, established by the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
The journal uses the iThenticate similarity detection tool to ensure the originality of its publications. In cases of identified research misconduct (according to COPE guidelines), the journal presents the case to its editorial board for deliberation.
Where applicable, the Journal adopts the publication of errata and retractions, aiming for scientific communication that does not generate doubts regarding its credibility.

EDITORIAL POLICY
Preprints
The Revista de Nutrição, in accordance with the Open Science movement, supports the use of preprint servers and accepts manuscripts previously deposited on reliable servers such as SciELO Preprints.
Peer Review Process
The Revista de Nutrição has specific policies for the evaluation and selection of manuscripts:
- Works that have been submitted to other journals, presented at previous events (national or international), or translated into other languages are not accepted, aiming to preserve the originality of the work.
- Before the manuscript is sent for evaluation by ad hoc reviewers, it undergoes a pre-analysis by the Editorial Board.
- Authors should suggest three potential reviewers for the manuscript, with their emails and affiliated institutions, and may optionally indicate up to three reviewers they prefer not to review their work.
- After initial approval, manuscripts are sent to two specialized reviewers, which may include a reviewer suggested by the authors. In case of disagreement, a third reviewer is appointed.
- The evaluation process adopted by the journal is the blind review, ensuring the identities of authors and reviewers confidential.
- Reviewers' decisions may be of acceptance, resubmission, or rejection. The author is informed in all cases.
- Similarity analysis is conducted in the second stage of the review process, following the initial ad hoc
- Associate Editors analyze the reviewers’ reports and recommend acceptance or rejection to the Editor-in-Chief, who makes the final decision.
- Rejected manuscripts with the possibility of reformulation can be resubmitted as new works, undergoing a new evaluation process.
- Works with suggested changes must be corrected by the authors within 30 days.
- Accepted manuscripts may be returned to the authors for approval of changes during the editing and normalization process, according to the Journal's style.
- The journal adopts the first option for advancing the open peer review process proposed by SciELO, in which the name of the Editor(s) responsible for the evaluation process is disclosed in the published article.
Open Data
The Revista de Nutrição supports and encourages the sharing of data, codes, methods, and other materials used and resulting from research that are generally underlying in the texts of articles published in the journal. If external research data are used, consult the Research Data Citation Guide provided by SciELO. The repositories for research data deposition recommended by SciELO can be used and are accepted.
Charging Fees
The Revista de Nutrição does not charge any fees for the submission, processing, or publication of articles.
Ethics Policy and Misconduct, Errata and Retraction
Cases of scientific misconduct identified by the Revista de Nutrição will be investigated by the Journal's editorial team, together with the Editorial Board, to determine the best option for their resolution.
Requests for Errata or Retraction will be evaluated and conducted according to the guidelines provided by SciELO Brasil.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Conflicts of interest may be of a personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial nature and can occur when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Upon submitting the manuscript, authors are responsible for acknowledging and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is any, even potential, conflict of interest, the author(s) must inform it in a separate signed document attached to the submission platform. For more information, see: Disclosure of Financial and Non-Financial Relationships and Activities, and Conflicts of Interest.
Adoption of Similarity Checking Software
The journal uses the iThenticate tool to verify the similarity of articles. This verification occurs during the evaluation process, in the second stage of the ad hoc review. There is no acceptable percentage of similarity, and each case is analyzed individually.
Articles derived from publications such as theses or dissertations are accepted and can be submitted; however, we understand that high-quality research should generate distinct research products and not just sliced reproductions (“salami publications”), with this modality considered unethical conduct.
Authors may be invited to rewrite and adjust the manuscript according to the similarity found.
Sex and Gender Issues
The editorial team of the Revista de Nutrição, as well as the authors who publish in the journal, must always observe the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER. The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information on sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and the results and interpretation of findings. Furthermore, the Revista de Nutrição observes a gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.
Ethics Committee
Research involving procedures with human beings must respect the ethical principles established by Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and the research must have been approved by the ethics committee of the institution responsible for it.
The document declaring approval from the ethics committee will be requested in case of article approval. For evaluation, it is necessary to inform the research registration number.
