Abstract

Abortion is a common occurrence in the lives of couples. Recurrent spontaneous abortion is defined as the occurrence of three ar more spontaneous gestational fosses until the 20th week of pregnancy, and it occurs in 1 % to 2% of the women in reproductive age. There are several factors associated with recurrent spontaneous abortion: genetic, anatomic, hormonal, infectious, immunological and other ones. Nowadays, the most studied factors are immunological. When adequately treated, women with these factors have better gestational results. They include autoimmune factors, such as collagenosis and antiphospholipid antibodies, and alloimmune ones, which involve immune modulation during pregnancy for fetal graft acceptance. Jnherited thrombophilia factors have also been associated with recurrent spontaneous abortion. Oespite diagnostic advances, the etiology of several cases of recurrent spontaneous abortion remains unclear. New isolated ar associated factors may influence gestational results. ln this article, we conduct a brief review of the factors associated with recurrent spontaneous abortion, according to recent literature.
