Dermoscopy
importance for clinical pratice
Keywords:
Dermoscopy, DermatologyAbstract
Dermoscopy is a noninvasive method for diagnosing pigmented skin lesions. The
technique requires a dermatoscope, instrument that allows a 10-fold magnification of the skin lesions. Since the incidence of melanoma has been increasing worldwide, the main indication of dermoscopy is to diagnose this
malignant tumor early and help in the differential diagnosis of other melanocytic
lesions. However, dermatoscopic examination requires training for correctly analyzing
and interpreting the specific patterns observed. The aim of this article is to
introduce the basic concepts of dermoscopy and its indications to non-specialist
physicians.
