The aesthetics of a smile is associated with dental color and shape. gum contour characteristics with respect to the position of the lips and patient’s face, Altered
passive eruptíon is a condition that results in short clinical crowns of varying sizes and may make it difficult to create an aesthetic smile using prosthetic rehabilitation, This study presents the clinical case of a female whose smile was greatly improved by the combination of periodontal plastic surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation. A patient complained about the color of dental element 21 and the different sizes of her clinical crowns, which were evident when she smiled. Altered passive eruption was diagnosed but onfy teeth 11 and 22 presented gum involvement. Dental element 21 required total crown replacement, Gíngivectomy was done to correct altered passive eruption and reestablish gingival zenith After 30 days, the total crown of element 2 1 was removed and a temporary crown was cemented. After 45 days, a total metal-free crown was cemented and the patient reported satisfaction with the treatment. In clinical practice, prosthetic and periodontal procedures need to be associated to reconcile the dental elements with the soft tissues around them, and create an aesthetic smile.
