Intertrochanteric fractures of femur: probable causes of bone fixations failure

Treatment of twelve patients with intertrochanteric fractures of femur and bone fixation failure was analyzed with the objective of determining their causes. The most frequent complications were: implant
migration, rupture of the implant, loss of anatomic reduction and varus deformities. All these complications were caused by errors in surgical procedures. The authors recommend a correct preoperative evaluation of the fracture to make it possible to choose the best implant device and fixation technique.
