Abstract

This study was developerl to extend observations on the use of spirometry in the examination of children. Thirty-one children with pulmonary diseases were studied. 96.4% of them were able to perform spirometry adequately. Their mean age was 10.51 years. There were 17 girls (54.84%) and 14 boys (45.16%). The principal diagnosis was asthma (74.2%). The present study suggests that there is increasing recognition of objective measurements of pulmonary function in clinical management of pediatric pulmonary disease, especially in asthma. Spirometry is a cheap pulmonary function test, easy and accessible for most of the children.
