Spirometry in aged people
retrospective study of 438 cases
Keywords:
spirometry, aged, respiratory mechanicsAbstract
Since January 1995 until January 1998, 438 lung function tests of patients over 60 years old were studied. In the evaluation, it was considered gender, age, diagnosis, tests results and, primarily, patients ability of performing the tests in an adequate way. It was observed that most of the patients (84%) were able to perform the tests satisfactorilv. This research suggests that spirometry should be used in the control and quantification of lung diseases due to its accessibility, low costs and good reproducibility.
