Chronic kidney failureis responsible for many dermatologic manifestations including hyperkeratosis follicularis, xerosis, half-and-half nails, hyperpigmentation and pruritus. The last symptom is, undoubtedly, the most important and responsible for eventual decline of patient's quality of life. Its etiology is not completely understood and its treatment concerns many aspects of the uremic syndrome, as dialysis, control of hyperparathyroidism and correction anemia. This article presents the most important aspects of physiopathology and treatment of pruritus.
