Abstract

The primary skin cancer is more frequent in Caucasian people, being the malignant melanoma the principal death cause among all the diseases originated from the skin. Eighty-three cases of skin cancer with anatomic-pathological proof have been investigated. Patients were submitted to operative treatment at Plastic Surgery Service of Hospital e Maternidade Celso Pierro, Puc-Campinas from May1996 to May 1997. From the total of patients analyzed, 44 (53.0%) were male, 39 (47.0%) female and 46, 6% of the cases were in the age group above 7() years old. About the histological diagnosis, 65 patients (72.2%) presented basal cell carcinoma, 16 (17.7%) squamous cell carcinoma, 4 (4.3%) melanoma and 5 (5.5%) other neoplasms. Considering the anatomic-pathological diagnosis, the distribution of the skin tumors was analyzed in the variants: sex, age group, type of skin and sunlight exposure, tumor and basal cell carcinoma location in the face and anatomic-pathological confirmation of preoperative diagnosis. It was concluded that the incidence regarding sex, age group, histological type and lesions topography is in accordance with the literature, although the national statistics is undere stimated by data losses.
