Abstract

The risks surrounding central venous access, a common procedure in patients who require hemodynamic monitoring, as well as prophylactic measures for complications such as cardiovascular infection, are described in the literature. In this report, the case of a patient with a central venous catheter who presented with bacterial endocarditis in the tricuspid valve and multiple septic pulmonary infarctions is presented. Cases that progress to death are rare, demonstrating that care in the management of central venous catheters and early diagnosis are essential for a good prognosis of the disease.
