Abstract

Objective
It was to evaluate the quality of life of institutionalized elderly people over 60 years of age and the frequency of their chronic conditions.
Methods
The comparison of clinical factors, related to institutionalized elderly people, through correlations with the Medical Outcomes Study 36 instruments - Item Short-Form Health Survey and the Health Assessment Questionnaire, respectively. 60 elderly people from Lar dos Velhinhos in Campinas were interviewed.
Results
There is statistical significance in relation to the conditions and the domains physical aspect, social aspect, functional capacity and vitality. Regarding the Health Assessment Questionnaire, there was no statistical significance.

Conclusion
It is concluded that quality of life is influenced by several conditions and, although this situation is noticeable, it often does not contribute as a support factor to improve the clinical conditions of institutionalized elderly people.
