Abstract

Attention Deficit Disorder is a chronic neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It is prevalent in up to 10% of the school population and is frequently identified when the child is in the first two grades of elementary school. It is commonly seen in childhood and often persists into adulthood. It can manifest itself concomitantly with Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Learning Disorders, Anxiety and Depression. The etiology of Attention Deficit Disorder is multifactorial and it is known that it affects more boys than girls; The diagnosis, which must be multidisciplinary, is often inaccurate due to the use of inappropriate methodology. The intervention process comprises psychoeducational assistance, medication, parental guidance and family therapy, with the main objective of promoting the child's adaptation, both to the family, academic and social environment.
