CGT and clenbuterol effect in metabolic profile Of denervated skeletal muscle
Keywords:
muscle, skeletal, clenbuterol, creatine, glutamine, taurineAbstract
Objective
Knowing that three days after denervation, skeletal muscles show a reduction in contractile activity and the effectiveness of metabolic pathways, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether supplementation with the creatine/glutamine/taurine complex, or with clenbuterol, modifies the intensity of events triggered post-denervation, in the soleus, white gastrocnemius and red gastrocnemius muscles.
Methods
Male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups (n=6): Denervated; Denervated treated with creatine/glutamine/taurine; and Denervated treated with clenbuterol, K. M. CANCELLIERO et al.
daily for 3 days. Glycogen reserves, soleus weight, blood glucose and lactatemia would be assessed.
Results
The denervated muscles showed a reduction in glycogen reserves: 48.0% in the soleus muscle, 31.0% in the white gastrocnemius and 31.0% in the red gastrocnemius. Treatment with creatine/glutamine/taurine promoted an increase in the glycogen reserves of normal muscles (9.0% in the soleus, 14.0% in the white gastrocnemius and 10.0% in the red gastrocnemius) and, more importantly , in denervated muscles (23.0% in the soleus, 25.0% in the white gastrocnemius and 18.0% in the red gastrocnemius). Clenbuterol also promoted an increase in glycogen reserves, both in normal muscles (15.0% in the soleus, 48.0% in the white gastrocnemius and 28.0% in the red gastrocnemius), and in denervated muscles (53.0% in the soleus, 55.0% white gastrocnemius and 45.0% red gastrocnemius). Soleus muscle weight was reduced by 3.4% due to denervation. In the presence of clenbuterol, the weight of the normal soleus muscle increased by 13.8% and the denervated muscle only by 4.4%; however, with the creatine/glutamine/taurine complex there was no difference. As for plasma concentrations of glucose and lactate, they remained at normal levels.
Conclusion
The energetic conditions of the supplemented skeletal muscles were better than those not treated, highlighting clenbuterol, which proved to be effective in maintaining the muscles under acute denervation conditions.
