Abstract

Objective

To verify if there is bacterial contamination of the gutta-percha cones stored in two different ways in the dentistry c!inics of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas School of Dentistry

Methods

ln this study, 39 gutta-percha cones were collected from two different storage means: sealed box (contrai group) and dry recipient and wet recipient (glycerin), from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas. These were inoculated in Petri dishes in Brain Heart lnfusion and then were stored in anaerobiosis jars and placed in a 37°C incubator for 48 hours.

Results

After the incubation period of 24 and 48 hours, no bacterial growth was detected in the dishes.

Conclusion

Based on the results obtained in this research, the conclusion is that the gutta-percha cones, regardless of the storage means, seem to be free from contamination.
