Abstract

Objective

To evaluate which surgical drape in oral surgery under local anesthesia offers more comfort to the patient without risking his health or compromising basic biosafety principies.

Methods

Thirty-three patients were submitted to exodontias of their four unerupted third molars, divided into two stages. Two types of surgical drapes were selected, one exposing the entire face of the patient and another one only exposing the patient's mouth to the surgeon. After both surgeries were performed, the patients were submitted to an objective questionnaire where they chose which drape was more comfortable.

Results

About 87.87% of the studied patients chose the drape that exposed the entire face to the surgeon, only 9.09% of them chose the drape that exposed only the mouth and 3.03% had no preference.

Conclusion

The surgical drape that offers most comfort to the surgical patient is that which exposes the entire face of the patient to the surgeon.
