Abstract

Kawasaki disease is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology, more prevalent in children under 5 years and whose basically clinica/ diagnosis is made differentially, that is, ruling out other causes. lt is characterized by fever that lasts at least 5 days in addition to at least four other clinica/ signs: changes in the limbs, skin rashes, conjunctival injection without pus, changes in the lips and oral mucosae and cervical lymphadenopathy. Early diagnosis and immediate institution of therapy prevents serious sequelae, such as coronary aneurysm. This project intends to assess the accuracy of the main clinica/ signs/symptoms, one by one, for the diagnosis of this illness. Nane of them has shown satisfactory specificity or positive predictive value; the most common clinica/ signslsymptoms have better sensitivity and better negative predictive value. These resu/ts confirm the need for the diagnosis to be established by a set of clinica/ criteria until an adequate method is found, that is, one that has good accuracy when used atone.
