Abstract

The reflection on the objectives of education and the assumption of responsibility for its development around the world have been reinforced by the Church since 2019, when Pope Francis called on leaders to sign the Global Compact on Education. The Church in Brazil, through the 2022 Fraternity Campaign, brought ways for this reflection to the faithful and those interested in studying the topic through dialogue. The main proposal starts from the need for a new
understanding of what a human being is, in a way that, understood in its entirety, this anthropology can support a new pedagogy. In this sense, the proposal for education for a new humanism in Jacques Maritain stands as a possible alternative based on the reflections of the Fraternity Campaign and the Global Compact. Thus, the present work aims to create a dialogue between the proposals for an education for a new humanism, grounded on the base text of the
2022 Fraternity Campaign; the proposal for an education for integral humanism, by Jacques Maritain, through the work Integral Humanism and Education: Criticism of Educational Public Policies from Jacques Maritain, by Prof. Dr. Paulo
Moacir Godoy Pozzebon; and the exhortation to assume a commitment to education throughout the world, starting with Pope Francis’ Global Pact for Education.
