Biology of Lonchorhina aurita Tomes,1863 at southem Brazil

Abstract

The biology of Lonchorhina aurita Tomes, 1863 was analysed in 25 bats netted in 6 localities in Rio de Janeiro state, southern Brazil. These sample include 6 females inactives. Males with scrotal testicules was obtained in march, april, may and june. The daily activity was recorded between 51 minutes afterthe sunset and the sunrise, with average of 204 minutes afterthe sunset (± 191,49 minutes), with predominace untill 21,00 hours, when 70% of the animais were netted. The weight varies from 9 to 28 grams (average 18,3 ± 3,53 grams), the forearm lenght varies from 47 to 55, 7 milimeters (asverage 51,08 ± 1,56 milimeters) and the rectal temperature varies from 32,8 to 38,8 ºC (average 35, 13 ± 1,59 ºC).
