Nucleus of journals and peripheral journals in the preventive psychology area

Journals are the most usual media for scientific communication. Our objective was to analyze the publications listed in the PsycINFO, from 1996 to 2000, in search of articles on Preventive Psychology. 7492 articles on the subject were found, and the number of such articles published in each of the periodicals was
computed. 22 journals were inserted in the top percentile, being the media for 27.55% of the articles. This indicates that there are nuclear journals for the subject of prevention, in spite of the theme being treated from the perspective of different psychology areas. In conclusion, the considerable variety of the journals examined, indicates the relevance of that topic and, since 22 journals were identified as a nucleus, it is feasible to select sub-areas of content in order to
compose specific collections.
