Meditation and wealth for sannyasins’s Osho

The present work constitutes part of the research results that investigate how Brazilian sannyasins
of the Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, also known as Osho, appropriate the references of his
legacy that guide the religiousness. Through documentary research in the OSHO Online Library
and bibliographic research, the article deals of the figure of Rajneesh/Osho; the reasons for the guru’s religious success; the corporate structure of the Rajneesh movement; and the constitution
of the neossannyasins. Then, through the apprehension of in-depth interviews, presents the
relationship of sannyasins with meditation centers or ashrams inspired by Osho’s philosophy. It discusses their meditative practices; the sannyasins’ understanding of meditation; how they perceive wealth, consumption and money; their investments in the practice and satisfaction of spirituality; and the consumption of materials from the official Osho International Foundation
website and the services offered at the Osho International Meditation Resort. Finally, it lists the
possibilities for future research with Brazilian sannyasins.
