The article contains three specific main points: first we describe the identity of Catholic universities; then we summarize some characteristics of the institutions’ mission for higher education; finally, we briefly address
the issue of practical work at these universities. The three points are addressed taking into account the laws and staternents of the Magisterium of the Church that estabiishes the standards and regulations of these institutions, focusing primarily on the Second Vatican Council, the Code of Canon Law, and the Apostolic Constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae, without ignoring some of the Popes’ ínterventions.
