Abstract

Based on the Aposto lic Constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae for catholic universities, the aim of the present article isto examine the relationship between education and science by means of a dialogue between theology and
science. First, based on Jürgen Haber mas’ reflections about the role of religion in the public sphere, we apply the concept of Bildung as being adequate for catholic universities and the meaning of “catholic” when
applied to a university is interpreted by the categories of public theology. In the second part we discuss some consequences of the relationship between theology and sciences based on studies that research the relationship between religion and sciences. Therefore, we point out that catholic universities are critical for sciences and important in contemporary times as they contribute to the education of the members.
