Salvation and imperfection
on the government of the soul, the manifestation of truth and Christian subjectivity in Michel Foucault

In this article we examined the Christian practices of penance and confession of the first centuries in the framework of the sayings and writings of Michel Foucault, especially the relationship between the government of the soul, the manifestation of truth and the establishment of the αυτός. The analysis of this issue is not only relevant to understand the details of the genealogy of the “Christian” subject in Foucault. It is still a question of knowing to what extent Christianity claims to be a religion of salvation, dismembered from the presumption of perfection; and then why has it developed, in an economy of power relations, a regime of truth indexed to subjectivity that is still somehow relevant and present in our society?
