Abstract

The study aimed to carry out a literature review on vulvodynia and to prepare an informative material for students and professionals in the areas of physiotherapy, psychology and nursing. This is a literature review. The search for articles was carried out in Scielo, PubMed/Medline, and Lilacs databases published from 2003 to 2020, using the descriptors “Vulvodinia”, “Dispareunia”, “Pelvic pain” in Portuguese and “Vulvodynia”, “Dyspareunia” and “ Pelvic pain” in the English language, these were combined using the Boolean operators AND and OR. To select studies with the proposed theme, their abstracts were read. The inclusion criterion was: Studies that addressed transdisciplinary action in vulvodynia. Exclusion criteria were: studies that did not fit into the proposed period, articles whose titles were unrelated to the topic, studies that addressed only invasive therapies, drugs and studies in which the methodology was focused on the application of assessment/diagnosis instruments for vulvodynia. After being analyzed, 8 articles were selected for the review, which showed that vulvodynia is an underdiagnosed and underestimated pathology, and that the success in its treatment is related to a transdisciplinary approach. This study demonstrates a scarcity in the literature of studies about the diagnosis and treatment of vulvodynia, making further studies about transdisciplinary action in these cases necessary.
