Ocorrência de mamíferos marinhos em Guaratiba e Marambaia, Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

The studies at Barra de Guaratiba and Restinga da
Marambaia (230 05' S and 44030' W) began in January
1994. And 9 specimen of Cetaceos have seen identified
throughout boat outings by the observation, by 2 fixed
points and beach routes priviousy selected and preestabilished 3 specimen of cetaceos have already been seen in these boat outing: Tursiops truncatus, 2
specimen; Orcinus orca, 3 specimen - 2 adults and 1
young; Balaenoptera edeni, 3 specimen - 2 adults and
1 young. With 7,9% of the total time of 2404 minutes
spent. From a fixed point a group of Balaenoptera
edeni was observed, they were allways in small groups
of 02 or 03 or either solitary, with 3,57% of the total time
of 12.998 minutes used during weekly observations.
The paths at the beach were realized in Restinga da
Marambaia, covering half of the area; 10 skeletons
were found stranded, and collected; 05 of wich were
Sotalia fluviatis, 02 Steno bredanensis, 02 Tursiops

truncatus, and 01 of Delphinus delphis, in the effort of 7.967 minutes of observations. Its very important to say how near the Cetaceans were at the coast, during the studies and also the presence of 8ardine shoals (Family: Clupeidae) within at SOm / 01mile from the coast. The Eubalaena australis was seen in the region and videotaped by a local resident. Considering informations given by the local people and local fisherman, we leam that, there are Cetaceans in the Rio de Janeiro coast ali year long.
