Darwin's evolutionary theory and tht: historical context
Abstract
On the Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin, is the most important book in the whole Biology history. This paper proposes to review developmental aspects of the evolutionary thought, as well as to present possible influences on the Darwin ideas, that it would be expressed in his book. Traits of the non-biological thought, mainly capitalism and economic liberalism, are related with the evolutionary theory. 1 suggest a relationship between these traits and both the origin and the acceptation of the Darwin's theory by biologists and general public of the !ater nineteenth century.
