Abstract

lnsect growth regulators are the latest generation of chemical insectícides and include compounds which affect the growth and development of insects. These

products, besides their ejfect on cuticle formation and metabolism of larvae, can cause sterility when applied to adults of severa/ orders of insect pests, affecting their fecundity andlor viability of their eggs. This research evaluated the ejfects of the physiological insecticides methoxyfenozide (/ntrepid® 240 SC) and tebufenozide (Mimic® 240 SC) on adults of Anticarsia gemmatalis and their progeny. Thirty pairs of moths (males andfemales) were confined in three cages (I O pairs /cage) containing pots with-soybean plants. Insecticides at the proportional dose of 24 grams of active ingredient lha were applied to the leaves. The contrai was only sprayed with water. The number and viability of the eggs, as well as the developmental life cycle on the FJ generation were considered in the evaluation. The results showed that: (1) adults of A. gemmatalis are not killed by the insecticides (2) Intrepid applied on adults causes a decrease in egg production without affecting their viability, (3) Mimic does not affect the production and viability of eggs, (4) Intrepid affects the duration of larval and pupal phases, (5) Mimic ajfects only the duration ofthe pupal phase. Egg production and viability in the F2 generation are not ajfected by the insecticides.
