Abstract

Three different kinds of staining in species of Eriosema (DC.) G. Don and Rhynchosia Lour. (Faboideae -Leguminosae), native to southern Brazil, were utilized. The purpose of this work was to estima te the fertility of pollen grains and indicate the most efficient staining, for these species. The jlowers-buds were colected from their native places. The types of staining used were: 2% acetic orcein, 2% propionic carmine and alexander reactive. Comparisons between the staining on the viability of the pollen grain in each species, and among every species in the genus, were made. With the exception ofEriosema glabrum, the species analyzed in two genus showed a higher viability of pollen grains above 90% in all the staining. Alexander reactive was more efficient in distinguihing the viable and non viable pollen grains, followed by propionic carmine, while acetic orcein was not effective for these species.
