Resistance of cabbage to Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the resistance of cabbage, from the germplasm bank at the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, to the aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.). Thirteen varieties were tested under greenhouse and fie/d conditions, using 4 rep/icates, each one consisting of a cage with 1O insects at the adaxial surface of the leaf. The nympha/ period, nympha/ survival, reproductive period, post-reproductive period and the duration of the whole cycle were determined. lt was concluded that, of the varieties tested, F-Manteiga
/-916, A-Manteiga Ribeirão Pires /-2620 and H-Manteiga Ribeirão Pires 1-2446 were the least favorable to the development of the aphid popu/ation and E Gigante /-915 and P-Verde Escura were the most favorable in the fie/d. ln greenhouse conditions, E-Gigante 1-915 and H-Manteiga de Ribeirão Pires l- 2446 were the most favorable, while A-Manteiga Ribeirão Pires /-2620 and P Verde Escura were the least favorable.
